My Bikes

Seven Vacanza
I had been looking for a travel bike for a while and came across this titanium tourer with S&S couplers on CL. Naturally it has Campagnolo Super Record components, and I set it up with battery lighting and a set of fenders that aren't installed in this photo. I've ridden this bike on two grand randonees and a bunch shorter brevets. It's quickly becoming my favorite bike. It's so versatile. Pull the rack and flip the stem to go from touring bike to race bike in 10 minutes.

2009 Bacchetta Strada
My wife saw this on the local FB marketplace for a good price so I picked it up, put on a new wheelset and rode it on a 400k three weeks later. It's fun to have this one in the stable, but I like my upright bikes a lot better. Maybe I'll feel differently when I'm older.

Rivendell Sam Hillborne
I saw this on craigslist a few years ago and just couldn’t pass it up. I recently set it up for randonneuring with dynamo lighting and a handlebar bag. I can set it up with super low gearing (18") for some of the hilly long rides in the driftless region. It's a really comfortable bike but weighs over 40 pounds fully loaded for a brevet. Needs low gears to lug it up big hills.

1989 Team Miyata
This is an old Miyata race bike with Campagnolo Athena. I moved the wheels in this photo to the Seven and replaced them with some old Chorus/Open-Pros that look a little more correct and still perform flawlessly. I have a lot of miles on this bike, but it has been relegated to use on the rollers in the winter since I got the Seven.

1989 Miyata Ridge Runner Team
Trail version of the Team Miyata above. The colorway is identical despite the different blues in the photos. Greg Herbold put a front shock on this frame and won the 1st world downhill championship in 1990, so this bike was the real deal 30 years ago. Set up as a dirt-drop with 559 wheels and clearance for up to 2.5" tires, it's the original gravel bike. Cantilever brakes and triples still work fine by the way. You can have your 1x drive-trains and disk brakes. I'm old-school.

2014 Wabi Lightening SE
Fixed gear workout bike. I ride this a lot in the Spring while I'm getting back in shape to prevent me from pushing too big gears before I'm ready. Perfect for 1-3 hour rides on the pavement. OK for longer rides too. No fenders so I don’t really like riding it in the rain. I rode a Basso track bike with clinchers and no brakes all through college and like an idiot sold it for two hundred bucks. The Wabi is a better bike for a middle-aged guy like me anyway.

2012 Jamis Aurora Elite
Long distance bike.
I got it a few years ago on clearance to try randonneuring without spending the money on a rando-specific bike. Three full Super Randonneur (SR) series and a 1,200k on this bike. I set it up with dynamo lighting, but hardly ride it anymore because I prefer some of my other randonneuring bikes.

1990 Schwinn KOM S7
I bought this new, and it was my main mountain bike through the early 90’s. Turned it into a Burley puller when I had kids in the late 90’s/early 00's. Now it’s my winter bike. I ride it with studded tires whenever the temps are below freezing, so this bike sees a lot of action from November through March.

1990 Schwinn Cruiser
Train station bike. I have about a mile and a half commute to the train station and use this bike for that commute year round. I have been using it this way since 1992 when I got my first job out of college. I lube the chain with motor oil every year or so and repack the hubs maybe once a decade. I don't remember for sure. It was a long time since the last time.

1992 Santana Fusion Tandem
I ride this with my wife for lunch dates on the weekends in the summer since she is way too slow to keep up with me on her own bike

1981 Trek 613
Currently equipped with fenders and a rack, this is my rain bike and my “around-town-bike” because I don’t really care if anything happens to it. My brother in law bought this new and abused it for 10 years before hanging it in his garage for the next 20 then giving it to me to restore. It’s still a pretty nice bike and probably all anyone really needs.

Jury Townie
Built around Sturmey Archer drum brake hubs with a 3 speed in the back and a dynamo in the front. With fenders and lights this is my foul weather bike with studded tires in the winter and paselas for rainy days during the warmer months. Look here for more details on the build.

1985 Koga Miyata Proracer-S
Sweet 80's steel race bike with Dura Ace 7400. I hardly ever ride this bike, but it's totally sweet when I take it out for a spin.
